Is my child Depressed?

Hardly any people recognise the extent of the terrible extent of depression in girls and boys.

Juvenile depression is normally assumed to be a relatively scarce thing. In reality though, childhood anxiety and depression is one of the most persistent problems in our culture today.

When a serious case of depression effects a kid it is a overwhelming disease. It stops children from developing normally, impedes their social interactions, and even frustrates their learning. Depressed little ones do unsatifactorily in school, which of course lays a foundation for doing poorly in adulthood.

That is why, if you are the mom or dad of a depressed youngster, you have to do everything with in your ability to treat the problem early on. Juvenile depression is treatable, and in various ways it is easier to deal with than depression in fully-grown persons.

Children are, by definition, young, and so their minds are impressionable. If their depression can be identified early, they can acquire new ways of thinking much more simply than more mature persons can, but the longer their depression is allowed to progress, the more difficult it will be to remedy.

There are many different causes of depression in children, and it isn't always straightforward to identify an individual cause of the disease. Children's depression can be brought about by environmental factors, biological factors, a traumatic event, or simply by a perceived incompetence to cope with a difficult circumstance in life - a new teacher, difficulty making real friends, etc.

Childhood depression can extend from minor to severe. A lot of the time, the more minor depression in boys and girls can actually turn out to be more tricky than the severe form, as severe depression is more likely to be identified as a sickness and treated, whereas a minor depression will be overlooked and the child simply labelled as 'moody by nature'. The likely effect of course is that the child's depression continues to build up into adulthood and can become a life-long problem.

There are an assortment of techniques for managing children depression. It mostly depends on the specific nature of the condition. Nevertheless, there are some recognized methods that seem to work for most young people that don't involve the use of drugs at all.

One of the most customary of these methods is the use of physical games. It may seem obvious, but a lot of young children don't get enough exercise, which can certainly worsen depression, anxiety, attention deficit disorder, and other childhood ailments. While not normally being a complete cure, introducing a sporting or exercise routine can make an enormous difference in a depressed child's life.

Even more crucial than any physical exercise though is therapy. Therapy can take place in a one-on-one session with a counsellor, or it can take place in a communal therapeutic environment. Special camps for young children suffering from depression and related sicknesses have proven very successful, and may have less stigma attached in the mind of the young person entering therapy.

Of course, there is nothing that can be more helpful to a depressed or anxious child than a loving family and a stable home environment. Often times children who show signs of minor or severe depression are not displaying symptoms of a neurosis at all, as their agony is very realistically rooted in a hectic and painful home life. For this reason, no assessment of possible mental illness in a boy or girl should ever be undertaken without a detailed investigation of the circumstances at home.

What is It About Horses and Young Girls?

In a world of computer games, theInternet and shopping malls, what is it about this four-legged farm animalthat seems to capture the heart of most of them?

According to a recent study by the American Horse Council, 1.9 millionAmericans own horses -- just over 4 million people are recreational ridersand 3.6 million show horses. The horse industry has a $112.1 billion impacton the US gross domestic product: greater than the movie industry and thetobacco manufacturing industry.

Even with people mainly in cities, horses have really disappeared from dailylife for most North Americans. And yet their appeal hasn't faded.

I wonder why.

As a youngster, I was enthralled with horses. I read books about horses, took riding lessons and all of my drawings were of horses. It's a girl thingmostly. I didn't come from an equestrian background.

It does have benefits. You learn to control a large muscle-y animal whichmay prepare you for being married to another version of one. A horse weighsabout half a ton. You can't be shy around a horse. You learn to be confidentand firm.

The general care of a horse which includes brushing, mucking out stalls andfeeding gives you a feeling of responsibility. It's a healthierenvironment - a riding stable can delay the problems of dating and drugs. It's a great physical activity.

In an age where teenagers find that television's problems are dealt with in30 minutes, riding takes a longer, more dedicated approach. I think girlswho ride make better drivers because you're trained to look forward and planwhat's ahead. No one wants to get hit by an overhead branch on a trail. It'is a monetary investment but I think it's on par with boys playing hockeyand the equipment that entails. Overall, I would say it is money well spent.

Simple Golf Swing Secrets

In preparation for my overseas game for Tuesday, was practicing yesterday a particular golf thought with a buddy of mine. It seems that my hand was placed a little too far from my body. Closer observation of the professionals, like Garcia and Tiger, their hands are placed very close to their lower body.

Tip #1:
I used to have a swing thought, that having the hands too close was incorrect. After having made this correction, I now bring my hands closer to my body, and not just for the short irons but for every club in the bag.

Tip #2
During the take away, its also important to move the triangle formed by the left and right fore arms in one motion to the 2 o'clock or 8 o'clock position, depending from your point of view. Erine Els said the takeaway is all hands, while some people just move their entire chest to the right (if you're a right hander). To me, I think both work, so long as it is a 1 piece takeaway for the triangle formed by the left and right forearms.

Tip #3
Its also important to note that the shaft of the club does not pass the toe line. This is the imaginary line drawn across the toes of the left and right foot.

One interesting point to note is that keeping the hand close to the body, does not mean that the club head will cross this toe line. Its a false golf thought I had, and hope if you're reading this, it will help you too.

Be sure to have a golf buddy take a video for you, and read lots of golf books because have the right golf thoughts mixed with your vides will produce you a beautiful and elegant golf swing!

This is the award winning guide Sherman used to build his elegant & yet simple golf swing - http://elegantgolfswing.blogspot.com

Time Management Technique - Procrastination Through Exaggeration

A reality check is a good time management technique. When you procrastinate because of exaggeration you exaggerate the extent and involvement of a project. Part of you is hoping that will make others just give up and go away, but that doesnt work all that often. Break the project down into its components to understand the full scope of the project, and then just work on one component at a time until its done.

Another good time management technique is to get the overall scope down on paper before starting anything. Write out a quick rough draft identifying the big pieces needed for the project. Check and review to make sure you havent forgotten anything, and that you havent added more than is necessary.

Look at each big piece and write out the major steps or activities required to accomplish each one. This time management technique either re-enforces that the project is as big as you thought, or it demonstrates that maybe its not as bad as you were making it out to be. When the project really is big, look for outside help to get things done rather than just putting it to the side because it seems overwhelming.

Delegation is always a good time management technique so ask yourself, what can I delegate? Now if you believe the only way to get things done right is to do them yourself this will be really hard for you. If you think this way I challenge you to recognize that youre also creating your own time management prison where you have to be at the center of everything or nothing happens.

The next time management technique is to break the big steps or activities into all the little supporting steps or activities. This serves two purposes. First, it prevents you from overlooking things and having to scramble to recover. Second, as you go through this thought process youre getting everything that needs to go on your to do list so you can efficiently work down your list checking things off as you go.

Exaggeration procrastination doesnt have to foil your time management techniques. Exaggeration is just part of who you are, and there isnt anything wrong with that. Now you can choose how you respond to your need for exaggeration by stepping up and taking control and getting things done no matter how big or small.

Here's a Tip that should improve your reading speed:
Use Your Hand to Pace Your Reading

Before we begin, here’s a concept that you MUST understand about speed reading: shaving just a fraction-of-a-second off every page that your read will create a HUGE difference in your reading rate.

Even if you were able to shave just 1 second off the time it takes you to read a page that would still be FIVE minutes off a normal 300-page book!

So, it’s not always necessary to aim for the spectacular. Just a little growth here and there will make a world of difference, even when it comes to something as basic as paging and pacing techniques…

When it comes to speed reading, learning to use your hands correctly and efficiently will require that you train yourself to accomplish the following 3 tasks:

  1. Use your hands to guide and pace your eye movements through the text
  2. Use your hands to force your eye to constantly scan through new information
  3. Use your hands to prevent your eyes from repeatedly reading the same words

The Speed Reading Hand Motion

Although it may seem uncomfortable at first, the ideal use of the hands of a right-handed person would be to use your left hand to pace your reading and your right hand to turn the pages.
To begin reading, place your hand at the start of a line. Move your hand towards the right hand margin. Make sure to focus your eyes upon the text that your hand is pointing towards.
When you reach the end of the current line, move your hand to the start of the next line. Repeat this method to the end of the page. To make paging faster, make sure that your right hand is always positioned at the top right hand corner of the book.

Go ahead and practice this movement. You don’t need to worry about reading any of the text, just practice the hand motion and paging techniques for now. Make sure that you are able to rapidly move through the pages of your book.

Believe it or not, you can reach the place where your reading speed explodes to the point that your paging and pacing hands will have a hard time just trying to keep up!
